The City of Perth
The city of Perth is situated on the banks of the River Tay with road links to the North, South, East and West. Edinburgh Airport is about 1 hours drive and Perth is on the main Glasgow to Inverness railway line with links to Edinburgh and Dundee, providing easy access to the East of Scotland and England. There are also excellent Coach and Bus services both locally and to other Scottish and English destinations.
Perth and its surrounding area has many cultural, historical and geographical attractions.
Walks on Kinnoull Hill, Moncreiffe Hill and St. Magdelene's Hill (all within 3 miles of the city centre) all provide lovely views of Perth, the Tay and the hills beyond. The River Tay runs close to the centre of the city and a walk along the North Inch by the side of the Tay is recommended.
For those with more cultural interests, Perth Theatre and Concert Hall along with the Art Gallery and the Fergusson Gallery are all close to the city centre and within 20 minutes walk of Alma Villa Guest House. Historical interests are also well catered for with Scone Palace, Perth Bridge, Balhousie Castle (Museum of the Black Watch), The Fair Maids House, Perth Museum, St. John's Kirk and Huntingtower on the very edge of the City).
The city hosts many events including music festivals, a game fair and sports and sporting events at Bell's Sports centre, the Dewar's Centre, Perth Leisure Pool and outdoors on the North Inch.
Perth is an ideal base for touring the many sites of historical and scenic interest in this part of Scotland. The city is also an excellent base for visiting Edinburgh, Dundee, Stirling and the Fife coast (including St. Andrews). Loch Earn and Loch Tay are both around 40 miles from Perth with superb scenery in all four seasons of the year. Some of our Guests have also enjoyed bird watching at Loch Leven and the Tentsmuir Forest.
